Question by Vijay: I want to send a wrist watch as gift to friend in Philippines. Can I simply send it through speed post.?
This is a brand new wrist watch with international warranty and cash bill. If I sent it through by speed post of India, can there be any problems at customs clearance. Can I be assured of safe delivery of the gift.

If this is a brand new item complete with international warranty, tell the recipient that he/she shoud expect to pay a hefty customs tax when claiming the item. As long as the recipient can pay the tax (anywhere from P500 and up), there is no problem claiming the item. Brand new items — and if claimed as such — will always command a higher tax than a used item
Is it safe? There is of course no assurance, but I suppose the Phil. Post Office is getting better in terms of removing the crooks in the system that steals packages. One can only hope of course
